Safeguarding and Children in Need

All disabled children are, Children in Need’ as outlined in the Children Act 1989. The Disabled Children’s Team is a statutory social work team and also has a responsibility to safeguard children where there are safeguarding concerns.

The Safeguarding Children Service offers members of the public and other professionals specialist advice about child protection, issues regarding children looked after by the Council and concerns regarding the behaviour of professionals or volunteers who work with children.

The Service also has responsibility for convening and chairing Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences and for ensuring that child protection plans are made and implemented for children thought to be at risk of significant harm.
